Tougen Anki TV Anime Premieres with Episode 1 Synopsis & Preview Images- The dark hero tale Tougen Anki anime begins

The long-awaited TV anime adaptation of Tougen Anki has finally begun airing. Along with its premiere, the synopsis and preview images for Episode 1 have been released.

Based on the manga by Yura Urushibara, serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion (Akita Shoten), Tougen Anki has surpassed 4 million copies in circulation. Inspired by the Japanese folktale of Momotaro, this dark hero tale follows the fierce battle between descendants of demons (Oni) and those of Momotaro. Told from the Oni’s perspective, it reimagines a traditional narrative as a bold, new-generation dark fantasy.

Episode 1: “Blood of the Oni”

Shiki Ichinose is suddenly attacked by an unknown assailant. While fleeing with his adoptive father Tsuyoshi, Shiki learns the truth about his origins: he carries the blood of the Oni, and is being hunted by an organization of Momotaro descendants known as the Momotaro Agency. Having lived as a normal human until now, Shiki struggles to accept this reality. Matters worsen when he’s captured by Samidare Momoya, a Momotaro operative. Tsuyoshi—once a member of the Momotaro Agency—confronts Samidare in an attempt to rescue Shiki, wielding a massive blade forged from black bacteria using his Momotaro powers. Despite his efforts, he is defeated. Witnessing his father’s brutal loss, Shiki is consumed by rage, triggering the awakening of his Oni powers—and a rampage.

The bloodlines of Oni and Momotaro have been passed down through a select group of humans. Ages ago, the Oni, fully aware of their own violent tendencies, chose to live in seclusion. But the Momotaro attacked them, initiating an age-long conflict. Both sides established organizations—the Oni Corporation and the Momotaro Agency—and their war has raged for millennia.

One day, Shiki Ichinose learns the shocking truth about his bloodline following a surprise Momotaro attack. From that moment, he is bound by destiny, encountering the Oni dwelling within him. Thus begins a new generation of dark hero demon saga.
