In February 2024, CyberAgent created its Anime & IP Division to consolidate planning, production, advertising, merchandising, and global development of anime and intellectual properties. With the anime market expanding rapidly and productions becoming increasingly complex, the company founded Studio Kurm to provide opportunities for talented young creators, ensure fair compensation, and pioneer new methods of animation.

Okada, known for producing acclaimed works such as Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress (JP: 甲鉄城のカバネリ) and Ranking of Kings (JP: 王様ランキング) , will lead the studio. Combining CyberAgent’s technological capabilities with Okada’s production expertise, the studio aims to establish new approaches to anime creation and further strengthen CyberAgent’s presence in the industry.

■Maiko Okada’s Statement

“I believe that visual media has the power to pass something meaningful to the future. Japanese animation, loved worldwide, is the result of generations of creators dedicated to making great works. I want to carry this cultural legacy forward.

However, the industry is facing dramatic change. While the market grows, production environments are becoming harsher, and I fear a future where anime can no longer be made. That is why I chose to partner with CyberAgent’s Anime & IP Division, a group full of diverse professionals who can help shape a future I could not achieve alone.

Another mission is to maximize the value of creators. In January 2026, animator Yoshinori Kameda, known for his exceptional passion and precision, will join as Creative Representative. With him leading, we will form a top-level team dedicated to producing works that resonate globally.

Animation is both a collaborative art form and a cultural industry that only exists when shared with fans. We will build an environment where creators can devote themselves to their craft with pride, while also communicating the artistic and industrial value of anime to society.

Studio Kurm is not just an animation company; it is a challenge to build a sustainable system for creation with the best team, elevating Japanese anime culture to the next stage.”
