2023:A new star is born.
In 2023, a new star dethroned the previous champion, "Jujutsu Kaisen," to claim the top spot of the year.
That name is "Blue Lock."
This soccer manga depicts the process of selecting the ultimate striker for Japan’s national soccer team, one who embodies intense egoism. The series ignited a boom after its first anime adaptation in 2022, and its momentum shows no signs of stopping, with a movie and a second season set to release in 2024. While this result may be somewhat surprising to overseas manga fans, it reflects the rising fervor of soccer fans in Japan, especially as the country's real-world national soccer team climbs the global rankings.

2020:A Legendary Year.
As the world was devastated by the new coronavirus pandemic, with lockdown orders issued even in Japan, the demand for indoor activities surged globally. During such times, a legendary event swept through the Japanese manga industry: Demon Slayer.
This legend can be summarized with three numbers.
First, 23. Demon Slayer concluded its relatively short story with 23 volumes this year.
Next, 82 million. This is the number of copies Demon Slayer sold in 2020 alone. In comparison, the second-place title, Kingdom, sold 8 million copies, meaning Demon Slayer sold ten times as much. Truly astounding.
Finally, 330 million. This is the worldwide box office revenue of the movie "Demon Slayer: Mugen Train," released in 2020. With this performance, the film became the highest-grossing Japanese movie in history.
Indeed, 2020 can be called the year of Demon Slayer.
