Live-Action Series "Golden Kamuy: Hokkaido Tattoo Prisoner Battle" to Premiere on October 6 with New Characters Revealed
The live-action adaptation of Satoru Noda's manga "Golden Kamuy," starring Kento Yamazaki as Sugimoto, has been a hit since its release on January 19, grossing over 3 billion yen. The first season of the drama series, "Golden Kamuy: Hokkaido Tattoo Prisoner Battle (tentative title)" (9 episodes in total), will premiere on WOWOW on October 6 at 10:00 PM (JST), with exclusive broadcast and streaming. A trailer showcasing scenes that will impress original manga fans has also been released.
Set in late Meiji-era Hokkaido, "Golden Kamuy" combines a thrilling treasure hunt for the massive Ainu gold with survival battle action featuring a cast of unique and captivating characters. In "Hokkaido Tattoo Prisoner Battle," the pursuit of prisoners bearing tattoos with codes revealing the location of the gold intensifies.
Returning from the film are Kento Yamazaki as Sugimoto, Anna Yamada as Asirpa, and other main characters including Gordon Maeda, Yuma Yamoto, Asuka Kudo, Shuntaro Yanagi, Ryohei Otani, Katsuya, Katsumi Kiba, Hiroshi Tamaki, and Hiroshi Tachi. New additions to the cast include Hiroyuki Ikeuchi as Kiroranke, Maryjun Takahashi as Inkarmat, Yuki Sakurai as Ienaga Kano, and Akihisa Shiono as Okuyama Natsutaro.

Takuro Fujimoto as Tetsuzo Nihei, known as the "Nightmare Bear Hunter," who shows an abnormal obsession with the Ezo wolf Retara and stands in Sugimoto's way.
Masato Hagiwara as Kazuo Henmi, who is deeply inspired by Sugimoto’s way of life and challenges him in pursuit of "brilliance."
Kiyohiko Shibukawa as Kiichiro Wakayama, a yakuza boss who controls the gambling scene and encounters Sugimoto’s group under extreme circumstances.
Tomoki Kimura as Tatsuya Nakazawa, a skilled con artist specializing in cheating at gambling and bringing in profits.
Yuki Furukawa as Yasaku Edokai, a genius taxidermist with a popular taxidermy shop, who makes clothes from human skin and receives unexpected requests from Tsurumi.
Yu Tokui as Chouan Kumagishi, a master forger creating intricate counterfeit money using his original painting skills.
Kazuhiko Yamaji as Kiyohiro Suzukawa, a master of disguise and frequent fraudster who ends up helping Sugimoto’s group with a certain scheme.
The visual featuring these seven new characters showcases meticulous attention to makeup and costumes, heightening anticipation for the series.
The new trailer reveals the start of the tattooed skin battle, opening with Sugimoto’s furious reaction to Tanigaki using Asirpa as a shield, and includes Tsurumi’s sinister laughter and Hijikata’s careful sword inspection. The trailer hints at a thrilling and complex plot where various characters, including Kiroranke, Inkarmat, Ienaga Kano, and Okuyama Natsutaro, become entangled, making it difficult to distinguish friend from foe. It also features the intense first confrontation between Sugimoto and Hijikata, as well as dramatic scenes like the appearance of a giant orca and a gunfight on a trolley, providing plenty of must-see moments for manga fans.
