[New Open]Nintendo Museum Opens October 2: A Sneak Peek Inside Featuring Every Console and Game Ever Released, Plus Giant Controllers for Mario Gameplay
On the 20th, Nintendo revealed new details about the upcoming Nintendo Museum set to open in the fall of 2024 in Uji City, Kyoto. The museum, which has been eagerly anticipated by fans, will officially open its doors on October 2.
The Nintendo Museum will showcase the company’s entire product history, housed in a renovated Uji Ogura Plant. The second floor of the museum will feature a comprehensive display of every console and game Nintendo has ever released, from the Famicom to modern titles. Visitors can also marvel at large-scale replicas of classic controllers from the Super Famicom and Nintendo 64.
In addition to consoles and video games, the museum will also display nostalgic family-oriented products from Nintendo's past, including playing cards, Hanafuda, and Shogi sets.
The first floor boasts an interactive experience with a massive central monitor where visitors can enjoy Hyakunin Isshu—a traditional Japanese card game—using their smartphones. Various hands-on exhibits will allow visitors to use special “coins” exclusive to the museum. Guests can also play Super Mario Bros. using a giant Famicom controller or participate in a cooperative “Love Test” game that measures compatibility between two players.
The museum will also feature a café offering special drinks and customizable hamburgers, where visitors can create their own unique meal. The on-site shop will sell official Nintendo merchandise themed around the company’s games and characters, as well as exclusive items only available at the Nintendo Museum.
