[Social media reactions] SLAM DUNK Creator Inoue Takehiko Shares Gratitude with New Ryota Miyagi Illustration Following Revival Screening
Manga artist Takehiko Inoue, creator of SLAM DUNK, updated his X (formerly Twitter) account, revealing an illustration commemorating the end of the revival screening of the anime film THE FIRST SLAM DUNK.
The revival screenings began on August 13th, across more than 300 theaters nationwide. Inoue expressed his gratitude, stating, "People who work in jobs where they may be urgently called upon cannot afford to be unreachable for two hours in a theater. I received a message from someone who recently retired from such a job, saying they were finally able to go to the movies. It made me feel so glad that we had the revival screening! I sincerely thank everyone who attended during this period." The illustration features a smiling Ryota Miyagi, one of the film's main characters.
The film is based on the basketball manga SLAM DUNK, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from issue 42 in 1990 to issue 27 in 1996. The story follows Hanamichi Sakuragi, a basketball novice who joins the Shohoku High School basketball team. As he clashes with his teammate Kaede Rukawa and faces off against powerhouse schools, Sakuragi quickly develops his talent.
