[Obituary] Sayuri, Singer-Songwriter Behind 'Mikazuki' and 'Erased' Themes, Passes Away at 28
Singer-songwriter Sayuri passed away on September 20 at the age of 28, as announced on her official X account on September 27.
In the official announcement, Sayuri's husband, Amaarashi, shared: "It is with great sadness that I inform all those who have supported Sayuri that she passed away on September 20. She was 28 years old. In accordance with the wishes of her family, her funeral was held privately, attended only by relatives and close associates." He added, "We are deeply grateful for the kindness shown to Sayuri during her life and join you all in praying for her eternal peace."
He further requested, "To members of the media, we kindly ask for your consideration for the deep sorrow of her family and relatives, and to refrain from contacting them for interviews. Additionally, as Sayuri was a freelance artist, we had been accepting fan letters at the live production company's office. However, at this time, we kindly decline any condolence offerings, including telegrams, and we appreciate your understanding."
Sayuri made her major debut with the ending theme song "Mikazuki" for Fuji TV's noitaminA anime Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace on August 26, 2015. Her raw yet beautiful music resonated powerfully with the world of the anime, earning her immense support and leading to her hit debut.
On February 24, 2016, she released her second single "Sore wa Chiisana Hikari no Youna," the ending theme for the noitaminA anime Erased. She continued to gain popularity, especially among teens and young adults, releasing her first full album Mikazuki no Koukai on May 17, 2017. However, in July of this year, Sayuri had been diagnosed with functional voice disorder and announced via her official X account that she would be pausing her singing activities for treatment.
