New Gintama Anime 'Gintama 3-Z Class Ginpachi-sensei' to Air in October Next Year - PV Released with Tomokazu Sugita Saying 'Let's Approach It Sincerely'

A new TV anime based on the spin-off novel 'Gintama 3-Z Class Ginpachi-sensei,' an extra chapter of the popular manga 'Gintama,' will air on TV Tokyo starting October 2025. Alongside this announcement, a teaser visual and PV have also been released.

The anime '3-Z Class Ginpachi-sensei' features the characters from the 'Gintama' universe, shifting the setting from Edo to a school for a quirky school life anime. With the tagline "Youth Gintama-style, where both extroverts and introverts have a place!" the story follows the homeroom teacher, Ginpachi Sakata—known for his messy lab coat and lifeless fish-like eyes—and the unique students who cause chaos at the school.

The teaser visual shows Ginpachi Sakata, also known as Ginpachi-sensei, alongside Gintoki Sakata from 'Gintama,' depicting a crossover between the two worlds. In the PV, due to unexpected delays, the actual footage wasn't ready, and instead, they announced that the "official PV will be released at Jump Festa 2025," in a confusing but humorous way. The official PV is set to be unveiled on December 21 at 15:40 at the BLUE stage of Jump Festa.

Additionally, starting from the 11th, the official X account will gradually reveal character settings for the 3-Z Class students. Furthermore, a new volume of the novel titled 'Gintama 3-Z Class Ginpachi-sensei Special: Go, Big Sports Tournament!' will be released for the first time in six years.

'Gintama' began serialization in 'Weekly Shonen Jump' (Shueisha) in December 2003. Set in an alternate version of Edo, it depicts the adventures of Gintoki Sakata, a freelancer in a world ruled by alien beings known as the "Amanto." The manga, which combines sci-fi, historical drama, and comedy, concluded in June 2019 and has sold over 58 million copies. The anime first aired on TV Tokyo in April 2006, running for four seasons, with theatrical films also released.

'Gintama 3-Z Class Ginpachi-sensei' follows Ginpachi Sakata, who becomes the homeroom teacher of Class 3-Z at Gintama High School. It’s a comedy set in a school filled with outlandish students, turning it into a frightening amusement park-like atmosphere, based on the spin-off novel of the same name.

Staff Comments

Tomokazu Sugita (Voice of Ginpachi Sakata) Comment
To everyone waiting for the Ginpachi-sensei anime, here we go again with yet another "I'm excited! Please look forward to it!!" comment. Please don't give up on us and keep listening. As the hunger for entertainment deepens, people may start to seek temporary replacements or become excessively exclusive. Let's approach others' joys sincerely, without disparaging anyone. Thank you.

Tomohito Osaki (Author of the novel 'Gintama 3-Z Class Ginpachi-sensei') Comment
I honestly thought, "Can they really make this into an anime!?" I didn't even think too much about the seating arrangement of the students when writing the novel! But it seems they managed to make it work quite well. There are parts of the anime that are faithful to the novel and parts that have been changed drastically. In any case, the staff, who deeply love 'Gintama' and 'Ginpachi-sensei,' all worked together to create an entertaining anime. I also did everything I could. Please watch it! And please, don't criticize too harshly!

Makoto Moriwaki (General Director) Comment
I vividly remember reading 'Gintama' when it first started serialization. I think the cover was even in color. I found the artwork fresh, and once I read it, I was hooked and continued to follow it. I never imagined that, years later, I would be involved with 'Ginpachi.' It makes me truly happy, and I worked on it with full motivation. Plus, Takeuchi, who worked as the chief character designer for 'Gintama,' joined us, along with several other original staff members. Balancing the fun without breaking the 'Gintama' image was a challenging task, but I hope we can enjoy this with all the fans.

Natsumi Higashida (Director) Comment
It's been about a year and seven months since the anime adaptation announcement. A lot has happened during this time, and there were moments when I thought, "Will this really get finished?" But it seems we can finally deliver it to everyone (probably). The super quirky students are causing a ruckus in the small box that is Class 3-Z. Familiar faces will also make an appearance, of course. We're making this anime to reach all of you who love 'Gintama,' so please watch it! And if possible, go easy on us with the criticisms!!
