Like a Dragon: Yakuza - Ryoma Takeuchi on the Live-Action Adaptation: "You Have to Take Risks for Surprises"
On October 21, the world premiere of the Amazon Original drama Like a Dragon: Yakuza - Beyond the Game took place in Tokyo, featuring stars Ryoma Takeuchi as Kazuma Kiryu, Kento Kaku as Akira Nishikiyama, and Yumi Kawai as Yumi Sawamura, among others. Directed by Masaharu Take, this live-action adaptation is based on Sega's popular Yakuza (Ryu ga Gotoku) game series.
The crime suspense action drama spans two timelines—1995 and 2005—and follows the intertwined lives of Kiryu and Nishikiyama in the underworld of Kamurocho. In 1995, the four friends—Kiryu, Nishikiyama, Yumi, and Miho—commit a crime that pulls them into the clutches of the Dojima Yakuza clan. Ten years later, Kiryu returns to Kamurocho, prepared to fight once again to protect his loved ones.
At the premiere, Takeuchi expressed his excitement about finally unveiling the series: "We all knew it would be a challenging project, but taking risks is what brings surprises. I’m proud that everyone came together to make this happen. I'm thrilled that people all over the world will get to watch it."
The series, consisting of six episodes, will be exclusively available on Prime Video, with the first three episodes streaming on October 25 and the remaining three on November 1.
