Yuki Kaji Reflects on 10 Years of Voicing Eren in Attack on Titan: "Normal Titans Feel Beatable" After VR Game Experience
Voice actor Yuki Kaji, who voices Eren Jaeger in the hit anime Attack on Titan, made an appearance on October 22 at the Shibuya Scramble Fest presented by Meta Quest in Tokyo.
During the event, Kaji participated in a talk session promoting the upcoming VR game Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable - Early Access, set for release this winter. When asked about the appeal of Attack on Titan, Kaji reflected on his long journey with the series, saying, "I've been playing Eren for over 10 years, so it's hard to sum it up in just a few words." However, he highlighted one of the series' key features: "The story evolves in unexpected ways. It starts with humans battling the threat of Titans, but it eventually shifts into a drama of humans fighting other humans. That depth is one of its great appeals."
In Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable, players step into the world of Attack on Titan, joining the Scout Regiment in a fight for humanity’s survival. Kaji, who got an early preview of the game, shared his thoughts on facing a Titan in virtual reality: "After 10 years of playing Eren, I feel like normal Titans are easy to defeat. But when I faced one in VR, I was genuinely scared!" He admitted, "The fear felt so real. It reminded me that I’m just one human in that world, and that sense of vulnerability hit me."
Kaji concluded by saying, "I’d love to play the game with my childhood friends, Mikasa (voiced by Yui Ishikawa) and Armin (voiced by Marina Inoue), and I think it would be a blast to play with Hiroshi Kamiya, who voices Captain Levi. I hope people will enjoy playing with their close friends."
