Excitement Peaks at the Pokémon x Craft Exhibition—Spotlight on the New "Mewtwo" Artwork
From November 1, 2024, to February 2, 2025, the Azabudai Hills Gallery will host the Pokémon x Craft Exhibition: A Grand Discovery of Beauty and Skill. This exhibition combines traditional craftsmanship with beloved Pokémon characters, offering fans a fresh, artistic experience. At the opening ceremony, Pokémon enthusiast and actor Kanata Hongo shared his thoughts on the exhibition and his personal favorites among the displays.
The exhibition unveils four exclusive new artworks, including a remarkable 2-meter-long Mewtwo crafted by artist Taichiro Yoshida, and Shaymin adorned with intricate fern patterns by Kasumi Ueba. The collection also features Takuro Kuwata’s expanded set of Pikachu-themed cups and bowls, now comprising an impressive 576 tiles. In total, around 80 works, including these new pieces, will be on display at the Tokyo venue.
Hongo expressed his excitement, saying, “I grew up with Pokémon through games and anime, and I’ve always enjoyed exploring local crafts during my travels. This exhibition was truly fun, and I’d love to try creating Pokémon art with inlay techniques.” When asked about his recommendations, Hongo highlighted Mewtwo, noting, “The new Mewtwo is assembled with intricate metal parts inspired by various Pokémon like Poliwag and Duraludon. The craftsmanship is incredible, and the level of detail truly impressed me.”
He closed the event by inviting fans, saying, “This exhibit will surpass your expectations! I had an amazing time, and I hope everyone comes to experience it.”
