Toho’s Record-Breaking Year: Over $6.4 Billion in Box Office Revenue

On December 23, Toho announced during its 2025 lineup presentation that its annual box office revenue for 2024 (December 2023 to November 2024) is projected to reach an unprecedented $6.37–$6.44 billion. This milestone surpasses Toho’s previous record of $5.98 billion in 2016, the year Your Name and Godzilla Minus One became massive hits.

Key Highlights from 2024’s Success

Academy Awards Recognition:
The Boy and the Heron won the Best Animated Feature award.
Godzilla Minus One received the Visual Effects award.

Blockbusters Driving Success:
Detective Conan: The Story of Ai Haibara – Black Iron’s Mysterious Marker – $110.6 million
Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle – $81.2 million
Kingdom: The Return of the Great General – $56.0 million
Spy x Family CODE: White – $44.1 million
Last Mile – $41.3 million
Weird House – $35.0 million

These six titles alone accounted for $368.9 million, making up 25% of Toho’s total box office and showcasing a balance of animation and live-action success.
