Light Novel Literary Magazine Dragon Magazine Ends 37-Year Run as New Media Platform Mekurimekuru Launches in Spring

KADOKAWA has announced that the light novel literary magazine Dragon Magazine will cease publication with its May 2025 issue, slated for release in March. This marks the end of the magazine’s 37-year history since its debut in January 1988. The announcement also includes plans to transition the light novel recommendation service Kimirano to a new media platform called Mekurimekuru, set to launch in spring 2025.

Transitioning to a New Era of Light Novel Media

In an official statement, KADOKAWA explained:
“We will launch Mekurimekuru, a new media platform for light novel and entertainment fiction fans. This transition marks a shift in how we engage with readers as we move beyond the limitations of printed magazines.”

The editorial team of Dragon Magazine noted that the decision reflects changes in the reading environment:
“Dragon Magazine has played an important role over the years, but we’ve realized it’s becoming increasingly difficult to fulfill that role with a print format. We’re excited to continue connecting with readers in new ways through Mekurimekuru.”

What to Expect from Mekurimekuru

The new digital platform Mekurimekuru will serve as a hub for light novel and entertainment fiction enthusiasts, featuring information on novels, anime, manga, events, music, voice actors, and more. The editorial team aims to create a space where readers can enjoy content updates daily and interact with the platform as part of their routine.

Content from Kimirano, which has served as a recommendation service for light novels since 2019, will be integrated into Mekurimekuru. As a standalone service, Kimirano will close upon the launch of the new platform. However, popular initiatives like the Next Light Novel Awards will continue under the new system.

A Legacy of Iconic Works

Over its 37-year history, Dragon Magazine has introduced readers to numerous beloved titles, including:

Full Metal Panic!
Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend
Slayers Special
Date A Live
High School DxD

More recent serialized works include Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World, Spy Classroom, and Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor, many of which have been adapted into anime.
