Japan Academy Prize Announces Five Outstanding Animated Film Nominees

The 48th Japan Academy Prize announced the nominees for Best Animated Feature on January 21. These five films, released between January 1 and December 31, 2024, were selected by the Japan Academy Prize Association’s 4,046 members. The winner will be revealed during the award ceremony on March 14 at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa.


Nominees and Highlights

Give It All (Ganbatte Ikimasshoi)
Based on Ryoko Shikimura’s award-winning novel, this coming-of-age story follows high school girls in a rowing club in Matsuyama, Ehime. Known for its vivid portrayal of youth and emotional struggles, the story has previously been adapted into a 1998 live-action film and a 2005 TV drama.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM
A sequel to Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY, this film explores the ongoing battles of Kira, Athrun, and Shinn in a war-torn world. A massive success, it became the highest-grossing Gundam film with over ¥5 billion in box office revenue.

Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle
