Director Hayao Miyazaki's "The Boy and the Heron" to Release on BD, DVD, and Studio Ghibli's First 4K UHD
Studio Ghibli and director Hayao Miyazaki's latest film "The Boy and the Heron" will be released on DVD, Blu-ray, and for the first time in Studio Ghibli's history, in 4K UHD with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos on July 3rd. The release will be managed by Walt Disney Japan.
"The Boy and the Heron," Miyazaki’s first feature-length animation in about ten years since the 2013 release of "The Wind Rises," has stirred up anticipation with producer Toshio Suzuki's unique "no-publicity" publicity strategy. The film swept across Japan with overwhelming popularity upon
its theatrical release in July 2023. It achieved significant box office success, not only in Japan but also in North America where it debuted at number one. The film has received multiple awards, including the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 96th Academy Awards, the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film, and the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film.
DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD editions are priced at 5,170 yen, 7,480 yen, and 11,880 yen respectively, including tax. Early purchasers can receive a limited edition set of three theater art cards as a bonus, although availability may vary by store. Rental of the Blu-ray and DVD versions will also begin on the same day as the sales launch.
