Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Shares Scene of a Sick Fern—Fans Relate: “That’s Me This Morning”

The official X (formerly Twitter) account for the anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End recently posted a surprising new scene cut featuring Fern bedridden with a cold. In the image, Fern’s face appears flushed, clearly under the weather—a relatable sight for many fans recovering from their own Golden Week fatigue.

The sudden update sparked a wave of reactions online:

“Is this supposed to be Fern with May sickness?”
“What’s going on with the admin?”
“That’s literally me this morning.”

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is based on the manga of the same name, which began serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday in April 2020. Set in a world after the defeat of the Demon King, the fantasy story follows the elf mage Frieren as she embarks on a new journey with her companions in the absence of the once-revered hero.

Noted for its post-final-boss setting, poignant emotional beats, stunning magic and sword battles, and charming moments of humor, the series has won over a vast readership. It received the Grand Prize in the 2021 Manga Taisho Awards and has sold over 24 million copies in total.

The anime adaptation aired from September 2023 to March 2024, with its highly anticipated second season set to premiere in January 2026.
