Universal Studios Japan (USJ), located in Konohana Ward, Osaka, announced a new collaboration attraction with the anime The Apothecary Diaries on May 9. Along with the announcement, they also unveiled visual artwork featuring Maomao and Jinshi, created exclusively for the collaboration.

This year, USJ is running its “Universal Cool Japan” project year-round. This marks the first collaboration with The Apothecary Diaries, and the long-awaited attraction promises a hyper-real experience where guests can meet protagonists Maomao and Jinshi.

The attraction, titled The Apothecary Diaries Mystery Walk: Investigate the Mysterious Medicine (JP: 薬屋のひとりごと ミステリー・ウォーク ～謎の薬を調査せよ～), is a full-scale mystery-solving entertainment experience that will run for a limited time from July 1 to January 4 next year.

At the starting point inside the park, guests will receive an investigation booklet and hear the case summary directly from Maomao before diving into the story. Guests will follow her clues and messages throughout the park to solve the mystery.

With Maomao’s insatiable curiosity leading the way, guests will hunt for hidden clues and experience suspense and thrills through her sharp deductions. The mission: uncover the truth behind the case while getting a glimpse into Maomao’s conviction and her childlike enthusiasm for knowledge and discovery.

If you manage to solve the case, you’ll get to join a special character greeting session where Maomao and Jinshi appear right in front of you. “Enjoy their humorous banter, which is beloved in the anime, in real life,” the park encourages.

Attraction Story: The Apothecary Diaries Mystery Walk – Investigate the Mysterious Medicine

A miracle drug called "Ryūzu Powder," said to cure any illness, has recently been trending. However, a surge in mysterious poisoning cases linked to this medicine has raised alarms. Enticed by the promise of a reward, Maomao accepts an investigation order from Jinshi. And now, you—a fellow apothecary who’s seen the royal decree—are also enlisted to help solve the case. Will you and Maomao uncover the truth behind the medicine?

Main Characters

■Maomao
A street-smart apothecary raised in the pleasure district with an obsessive passion for poisons and medicines. After saving the daughter of Lady Gyokuyō from a poisoning incident, her talents were recognized by Jinshi, and she became a poison tester. Her curiosity, thirst for knowledge, and a hint of justice often drag her into unexpected incidents.

■Jinshi
A beautiful eunuch who manages the rear palace. His striking looks are said to rival those of a legendary beauty. He frequently brings palace troubles to Maomao for her to solve.
