Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid: Maria Naganawa & Mutsumi Tamura Preview New Movie Ahead of Release, Tease Yuki Kuwahara Who Has Yet to Watch

Voice actors Maria Naganawa, Mutsumi Tamura, Yuki Kuwahara, and director Tatsuya Ishihara attended a special pre-release screening event for the upcoming movie Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved, held in Tokyo on May 26. The film is set to open in theaters on June 27.

Naganawa, who plays Kanna, Tamura, who voices Kobayashi, and Kuwahara, the voice of Tohru, took to the stage. Sharing her thoughts, Naganawa commented, “I had the chance to watch the film early, and it was just amazing. I thought I understood Kanna’s feelings, but seeing the story from a distance made me realize just how cool Dragon Maid really is.” She recalled watching the film alone and feeling deeply moved.

Interestingly, Tamura was also at the same screening but neither noticed the other’s presence. “I didn’t even realize you were there!” Tamura laughed. “I just wanted to talk about how I felt, but everyone else was trying to talk to the director, so I only got to say ‘It was great.’ Turns out you were there all along!”

Kuwahara, unfortunately, couldn’t attend the screening due to work commitments. “Everyone else got to see it first… I really wanted to go,” she said with disappointment. Although she has seen the final visuals, Tamura teasingly said, “You can’t compare! The visuals are great, but when everything—including the music—is in place, it’s on a whole different level.” Kuwahara, flustered, replied, “Where can I watch it? Please show me!”

Surprise Appearance and New Role Announcement

Singer Sachiko Kobayashi made a surprise appearance during the event. Not only is she performing the film’s ending theme “Bokutachi no Hibi” (“Our Days”), but it was also announced that she will voice Felicitas, the leader of the dragon faction.

About the Movie

Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved is a brand-new theatrical release from Kyoto Animation, known for A Silent Voice and Violet Evergarden: The Movie. Based on the manga by Coolkyousinnjya, the film follows the continuing adventures of Tohru, a dragon who becomes a maid for the ordinary office worker Kobayashi, and the heartwarming, interspecies family life they share.

Following the first TV anime season in 2017 and the second season, Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S, in 2021, this completely original movie brings a new chapter to the story. Directed by Tatsuya Ishihara, the film features a touching tale of family as a surprise visitor appears before the young dragon Kanna—her real father.
