From July 3 to 6, Anime Expo 2025 took place in Los Angeles, with Kaiju No. 8 drawing a massive crowd at its panel powered by Crunchyroll. Voice actors Katsuya Fukunishi, Nazeeh Tarsha, and Shawn Gann took the stage, unveiling exclusive content including a Godzilla crossover visual and performing a live dubbing session that electrified the 7,000-seat venue.
Godzilla vs. Kaiju No. 8 Visual Surprises U.S. Fans
The Kaiju No. 8 panel at Anime Expo 2025 marked its second appearance at the event, attracting thousands of fans. Anticipation built as fans in Defense Force cosplay chanted “KAIJU” before the screening of a new Season 2 trailer titled “A New Threat.” Applause and cheers erupted throughout the hall.
Katsuya Fukunishi, with lightning makeup resembling Kaiju No. 8’s signature aura, entered to loud applause. Nazeeh Tarsha followed, holding a Kaiju No. 8 mask. Both wore matching outfits—Fukunishi with a Kaiju mascot and Nazeeh with a Kafka Hibino plush—drawing laughter and excitement from fans.
The biggest surprise came when Fukunishi revealed a special gift from Japan: an original collaboration illustration of “Godzilla vs. Kaiju No. 8” by legendary designer Mahiro Maeda. The explosive visual triggered huge reactions from the audience, celebrating a clash of two iconic kaiju.

Fukunishi’s Passionate Talk and Live Performance
During the Q&A segment, Fukunishi shared how he pursued the role of Kafka Hibino: “I read the manga from chapter one and begged my agency’s president to let me audition.” Reenacting his dramatic plea, he entertained the audience while expressing his deep connection to the character.
Asked about his most memorable moment, he cited last year’s Anime Expo as his first overseas job and said, “I didn’t expect so many of you to return this year. I’m so grateful.” Many attendees were returning fans, reflecting the growing popularity of the series abroad.
When asked if he’d prefer to be a Defense Force officer or Monster Sweeper, Fukunishi quickly answered “Defense Force!” and performed a mock spear attack on the host, drawing laughter. Meanwhile, Tarsha and Gann chose Monster Sweeper, joking about the physical demands of fighting kaiju.
Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 and Global Simulcast
The panel concluded with a dramatic live dubbing performance of episode 10, featuring Kafka as Kaiju No. 8 confronting a bomb-wielding residual kaiju at Tachikawa Base. Fukunishi and Tarsha's performance received loud cheers from the audience, pushing excitement to its peak.
Fukunishi closed the panel with heartfelt words:
“Hearing the passionate voices of Nazeeh and Shawn brought me to tears. I’m truly lucky to be on a stage this warm.”
He continued:
“Season 2 is coming. We’re pouring everything into our voices. The animation team and musicians are working hard too. I hope this becomes a meaningful series for each and every one of you.”
A group photo with the crowd, accompanied by the chant “Kaiju Hachi?” “Gou!”, concluded the event on a high note.
