Demon Slayer: Muzan’s Stylish “Asakusa” Look from ufotable Goes Viral

The popular anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’s movie Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc Part 1: Akaza Returns has been in theaters since July 18. To commemorate the release, ufotable’s official X account shared an illustration of Muzan Kibutsuji.

This movie depicts the final battle between the Demon Slayer Corps, Muzan Kibutsuji, and the Upper Rank Demons. The released illustration features Muzan in his “Asakusa” look, wearing the same hat he donned when walking through Asakusa during Season 1. Fans reacted with comments like, “Muzan looks insanely cool!”, “I want more Muzan scenes, but that means we’re nearing the final episode—so conflicted!”, and “Matsushima’s portrayal of Muzan is wonderful.”

Demon Slayer is based on the hugely popular manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020. Set in the Taisho era, where man-eating demons roam, it tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a boy whose family was slaughtered by demons. He joins the Demon Slayer Corps to avenge his family and turn his demon-transformed sister Nezuko back into a human. The manga has sold over 220 million copies worldwide.

History of Demon Slayer’s Anime Adaptations and Box Office Records

The TV anime Unwavering Resolve Arc aired from April to September 2019, gaining massive popularity, followed by the movie Demon Slayer: Mugen Train in October 2020, which grossed about 51.7 billion yen (3.4 billion$), becoming a social phenomenon.

The franchise has since expanded into video games and stage plays, with subsequent TV arcs: Entertainment District Arc (December 2021), Swordsmith Village Arc (April 2023), and Hashira Training Arc (May–June 2024).The movie Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc is being produced as a trilogy. Infinity Castle Arc Part 1: Akaza Returns depicts Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps entering the demons’ stronghold, the Infinity Castle, for a final showdown against Muzan Kibutsuji and the Upper Rank Demons. It is currently showing in 452 theaters (393 standard + 59 IMAX).
