Netflix’s Live-Action ‘ONE PIECE’ Confirms Season 3 — Luffy Actor Delights Fans with Japanese Speech at ONE PIECE DAY ’25

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of ONE PIECE, with Season 1 currently streaming exclusively on the platform, has confirmed production of Season 3. The announcement came during the “ONE PIECE DAY ’25” event held on August 10 at Tokyo Big Sight, as anticipation builds for the Season 2 premiere in 2026.

At the special stage dedicated to the live-action series—part of the larger event celebrating all things ONE PIECE—the world premiere of the Season 2 trailer was unveiled. The footage revealed the subtitle “INTO THE GRAND LINE” along with the message “AND SEASON 3 SETTING SAIL SOON,” sparking thunderous applause from the audience.

In a surprise appearance, Iñaki Godoy, who plays the protagonist Luffy, took the stage. A devoted fan of ONE PIECE, Godoy began studying Japanese with the goal of speaking directly with creator Eiichiro Oda, a dream he has since realized. He has even showcased his Japanese skills on Instagram. For this visit, he set a personal goal of speaking in Japanese on stage, and delivered a heartfelt speech about his passion for ONE PIECE in fluent Japanese.

Godoy himself also announced: “We are planning to make Season 3. Thanks to everyone who watched Season 1, we’ll be making Season 3. I’m truly grateful. Thank you very much—I will work hard with Mackenyu to make it the best.”

Kappei Yamaguchi, who reprises his role as Usopp (in the English-to-Japanese dubbing), served as the event’s MC. Yamaguchi praised Godoy’s deep love for ONE PIECE and his impressive Japanese fluency.

Based on the immensely popular manga by Eiichiro Oda, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha), ONE PIECE follows Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates on a grand ocean adventure in search of the legendary treasure known as the “One Piece,” left behind by the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. Season 2 of the live-action series will depict their daring exploits on the extraordinary seas of the Grand Line.
