Mobile Suit Gundam’s Char Shares Laughter with His Zeon Subordinates over Steak, “I am the same as ever”

The new Hot Pepper Gourmet TV commercial featuring Char Aznable from Mobile Suit Gundam begins airing in Japan on September 11. The ad, titled Men of Zeon, is the second entry in the “Anime + Live-Action Scenery Series,” built around the theme “ごはん、いこっ。( Literally translated: let's go eat. )”

The CM takes place on a restaurant terrace at night, and it shows Char dining with his Zeon subordinates, including his aide, Dren. The group is relaxed and far removed from the battlefield, enjoying steak and conversation. When Dren says, "I can't believe even you, Commander, had such times," Char replies, "I haven't changed at all." The exchange shows a moment of camaraderie and comfort.

The scene ends with Char saying, "A meal might be salvation," showing that eating out can make you feel better. Char and four of his top dogs are the main characters, but there are other folks in the commercial too. It's a cool mix of anime and live-action, and it's a pretty unique way to see Char and his crew having a meal together.
