The story begins with Ryusei Narukami, a shut-in gamer who once reigned as a “Demon Lord” in another world. His rival in that world, the “Hero” who defeated him, has now been reincarnated as a high school girl, Meteor Hanaori. The two meet again in their new lives, and sparks fly as they clash once more in a comedy that intertwines battles with romance.

Hikawa, known for works such as Pani Poni and Aho-Girl, has long captivated fans with a sharp sense of humor and brisk storytelling. Given that background, anticipation for the anime skyrocketed the moment the adaptation was announced. Fans on social media quickly responded with comments like “I’ve been waiting for this,” “Definitely going to watch,” and “The title alone is hilarious.” Many are eager to see how the series’ energetic tone and witty character interactions will be brought to life in animation.

In a statement regarding the anime adaptation, Hikawa shared:

“When I first heard Hanaori-san was becoming an anime, I thought it was a dream my stress had conjured up, indistinguishable from reality. But it seems it really is happening. As the author, I have been allowed to be involved in the production at a distance so blissfully close it feels unreal. The team is creating an anime that stays true to the atmosphere of the original while also being stylish, entertaining, and cool. Perhaps it truly is a dream. Let’s meet in our dreams, everyone.”
