"The Apothecary Diaries" Season 2 Production Decided, Broadcasting in 2025 with PV Released; Aoi Yūki: "Looking Forward to It"
The second season of the TV anime "The Apothecary Diaries" has been officially announced to be in production, with a broadcast set for 2025. Alongside this announcement, a teaser visual and PV were released.
The teaser visual features Maomao and Jinshi amidst a backdrop of falling snow, with light shining through from behind. Notably, a hairpin given to Maomao by Jinshi is also depicted. This new visual seems to foreshadow the duo facing new mysteries together.
The teaser PV outlines the changes in the power dynamics within the harem following Empress Gyokuyou's pregnancy, the entry of Consort Rouran, daughter of the influential official Shi Shou, an assassination attempt on Jinshi, and the disappearance of Suiren, suspected to be behind the incident. These mysteries left unresolved in the first season hint at the new challenges awaiting Maomao and Jinshi. What does the future hold for them in season 2? Expectations for the next installment are high.
Natsu Hyuuga, the original author, commented
"Originally, I wrote the Apothecary with the thought of neatly ending it at volume four, so if episodes beyond the third volume were to be animated, I'd be joining my hands in prayer. I believe the discomfort that viewers may have felt during the first season will likely be resolved in the second."
Aoi Yūki, the voice of Maomao, expressed her anticipation
"There are still so many fascinating scenes in the original work that I believe many are eager to see animated. I certainly want to see and voice them! There are plenty of such scenes! I'm sure it will turn into a wonderful work, so please look forward to it!"
Takeo Ōtsuka, the voice of Jinshi, shared his enthusiasm
"In the second season, I'm looking forward to how various stories and characters will be portrayed. Cherishing what we've built in the first season, I will continue to give my all in voicing Jinshi."
"The Apothecary Diaries," set in a medieval Oriental setting, follows a girl with the role of a poison taster, who solves various difficult cases arising within the palace. The original work, which started serialization on the novel posting site "Shōsetsuka ni Narō" in October 2011 and later published under "Hero Bunko," has been adapted into manga in "Monthly Big Gangan" and "Monthly Sunday Gene-X." With the comic series in circulation and surpassing 33 million copies in total, the first season of the TV anime began broadcasting in October 2023.
