High School! Kimengumi is a school comedy centered on the eccentric five member group known as the Kimengumi, led by protagonist Rei Ichido. Embracing their unconventional looks as individuality, they live by the motto, “Rather than becoming a cog in society, let’s be the seasoning that adds flavor to it.” The series originated as the manga 3 Nen Kimengumi, which began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1980. Following the characters’ progression into high school, the title was changed to High School! Kimengumi and ran from 1982 to 1987. The TV anime aired from 1985 to 1987, with an animated film released in 1986, sparking a major cultural boom thanks to its bold and innovative style.

The new anime will begin airing in January 2026 in Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block, broadcast every Friday at 11:30 p.m(JST.). Tomokazu Seki stars as Rei Ichido, with Shunsuke Takeuchi as Go Reietsu, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Kiyoshi Shusse, Chiaki Kobayashi as Jin Daima, and Kikunosuke Toya as Dai Monohoshi. The heroine and classmate Yui Kawa is voiced by Haruka Shiraishi, while Chie Uru is voiced by Ikumi Hasegawa.
