Evangelion Announces Brand New Original Series for 30th Anniversary: Studio Khara and CloverWorks to Produce, Directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki and Toko Yatabe

The Evangelion 30th Anniversary festival unveiled a brand new original Evangelion series, marking a major milestone for the iconic franchise. The announcement was made on February 23 at Yokohama Arena during the final day of the event titled EVANGELION 30+ 30th ANNIVERSARY OF EVANGELION.
It was officially revealed that a completely new Evangelion series is now in production.

Brand New Evangelion Series Officially Announced

The series composition and screenplay will be handled by Yoko Taro. Direction will be led by Kazuya Tsurumaki and Toko Yatabe. Music will be composed by Keiichi Okabe. Animation production will be managed by Studio Khara and CloverWorks.

The official website also released a statement confirming the launch of the new project. According to the announcement, the first report regarding the brand new Evangelion series was revealed during the Final Program on February 23, held as part of the 30th anniversary festival.

When the news was announced at the venue, the audience reacted with a rising wave of excitement. Low murmurs quickly turned into loud cheers, with voices expressing disbelief and astonishment.


A Grand Finale to the 30th Anniversary Celebrations

The festival was held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Evangelion series, which began with the television broadcast of Neon Genesis Evangelion in 1995. As the culmination of anniversary projects that have continued since 2025, the event offered fans various ways to experience and celebrate the franchise.

In addition to exhibitions, stage events, and merchandise sales, the festival featured screenings of new short anime works and the first ever Kabuki performance based on Evangelion. It served as an anniversary celebration shared together with the fans who have supported the series for three decades.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is set in a world attacked by mysterious beings known as Angels. The story follows teenage pilots who operate the multipurpose humanoid decisive weapon Evangelion, humanity’s only defense against the Angels, depicting both their personal struggles and the fate of humankind.

The television anime aired from 1995 to 1996. In 2007, the franchise was relaunched as the Rebuild of Evangelion film series. The first three films Evangelion 1.0 You Are Not Alone, Evangelion 2.0 You Can Not Advance, and Evangelion 3.0 You Can Not Redo became major hits. The final film Evangelion 3.0 Plus 1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, released in 2021, surpassed 10 billion yen at the Japanese box office, marking the first time the series achieved that milestone.
