“Godzilla Minus Zero” Confirms Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe Return, First Teaser Revealed Set 2 Years After Previous Battle

Godzilla Minus Zero has officially revealed its first teaser along with major updates, including the return of Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe, continuing the story set two years after the events of the previous film.

First Reveal at CinemaCon 2026

Director Takashi Yamazaki took the stage at CinemaCon 2026, held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, to unveil the first details of the latest installment in Japan’s iconic Godzilla film series.

This marked the first time a Japanese live action film received a dedicated presentation slot at the event, drawing exceptional attention from industry professionals worldwide.

Story Set in Postwar Japan Two Years Later

Since its title announcement at Godzilla Fest 2025, held on November 3, details about Godzilla Minus Zero had remained undisclosed. It has now been revealed that the film takes place in 1949, during Japan’s postwar reconstruction period, two years after the devastating Godzilla attack depicted in Godzilla Minus One.

The story centers on a new catastrophe unfolding in this recovering era.

Cast Returns and Emotional Teaser Unveiled

Ryunosuke Kamiki reprises his role as Koichi Shikishima, while Minami Hamabe returns as Noriko, who miraculously survived the previous Godzilla attack.

Kamiki commented that he feels “truly happy to be part of a sequel to one of the most important works in my life,” while Hamabe expressed her gratitude for “being able to return to this world once again.”

The first teaser, featuring footage from the film, was also revealed. It shows Koichi boarding an aircraft once again, Noriko with tears in her eyes, and glimpses of the new Godzilla. The teaser concludes with a shocking shot of Godzilla approaching the Statue of Liberty, raising anticipation for the story’s full scope.

First Japanese Film Certified “Filmed For IMAX”

It was also announced that the film has been officially certified as “Filmed For IMAX,” making it the first Japanese film to receive this designation. The production fully utilizes IMAX technology, optimizing sound and visual scale to deliver the best possible IMAX experience. The film is scheduled to be screened in IMAX theaters across Japan.

Cast Comments

■ Ryunosuke Kamiki (as Koichi Shikishima)

My name is Ryunosuke Kamiki, and I had the honor of playing Koichi Shikishima once again.

I am truly happy to be part of a film set two years after Godzilla Minus One, which is one of the most important works in my life.

I also feel very proud to have been able to work again with director Takashi Yamazaki and the entire team.

While the previous film was already incredible, I felt that director Yamazaki’s passion was even stronger this time, leading the entire team forward. In that environment, I was able to portray Koichi Shikishima once again, a role that is very dear to me, and I feel that I have come to understand him even more deeply.

There is still the same level of pressure as before in being part of a Godzilla film loved by so many people, but I gave it my all so that everyone who watches it, and all those who love Godzilla, can truly enjoy it.

This film will be released on Tuesday, November 3.

That day is a special day for all of us, and above all, for all of you as well. It is Godzilla Day.

I sincerely look forward to seeing you all.

■ Minami Hamabe (as Noriko Shikishima)

I am grateful to once again exist in the world of Godzilla Minus One as Noriko, following the previous film.

The time spent in the story as one family with Koichi and Akiko felt so natural and full of warmth that it hardly seemed like there had been any time apart. It brought a sense of calm and deep affection.

The filming environment created by director Yamazaki and the team remained just as warm as before, but I could feel an even stronger passion throughout the entire production to make something even more enjoyable than the last film.

Personally, I remember being shocked and astonished when I first read the script. I found myself thinking, “What?! No way! They are doing this?!” and looking up in disbelief at just how incredible this project is.

I cannot wait to share this impact with everyone, and I am already filled with excitement to see it on the big screen as soon as possible.

With this film being released in both Japan and the United States around the same time, I am truly happy that audiences around the world will be able to share in this experience.

I sincerely hope that this film will once again bring joy to many people and become a work that is deeply loved.

To all Godzilla fans, please look forward to it.

And to director Yamazaki and the VFX team at Shirogumi, I am cheering for you from the bottom of my heart.

Let’s meet at the theater on Tuesday, November 3, Godzilla Day.

■ Director Takashi Yamazaki

Godzilla Minus One was loved by so many audiences and received numerous awards, becoming a very important work for me personally. However, when it came time to create a new film, all of that unexpectedly stood before us as an enormous wall.

I never imagined that such a fulfilling and rewarding experience as a director could become something we would have to overcome.

But we must keep moving forward.

Just like the Shikishima family, who overcome any hardship.

This time, the two members of that family, Kamiki and Hamabe, along with Akiko as well, will be returning.

It also looks like we will achieve a near simultaneous release in Japan and the United States, something we had never imagined before.

This time, we are working as a team to create something truly worthy of the phrase “the world is waiting,” and a meaningful film that should be made in this era.

Please look forward to it with the highest expectations.
