Wakana Yamazaki, Voice of Ran Mouri in Detective Conan, Dies at 61

Wakana Yamazaki, the voice actress known for playing Ran Mouri in Detective Conan, died on April 18 at the age of 61. Aoni Production announced her death on May 15. Following the news, Detective Conan creator Gosho Aoyama and fellow voice actors including Mitsuki Saiga and Naoko Matsui shared tributes on social media. Yamazaki had suspended activities in February while undergoing medical treatment.

Following the announcement of Wakana Yamazaki’s death, Detective Conan creator Gosho Aoyama shared a tribute through the anime’s official website. He wrote that he felt deep sadness knowing that the “gentle voice” that had always been close to fans would no longer be heard.

Voice actress Mitsuki Saiga also posted on X, recalling Yamazaki’s bright smile and warm conversations during her appearances on Detective Conan. Saiga expressed condolences for Yamazaki’s passing.

Naoko Matsui, who voiced Sonoko Suzuki, shared a longer message referencing the friendship between Ran Mouri and Sonoko. She wrote that the two characters would always remain best friends and thanked Yamazaki directly.

Wakana Yamazaki was born on March 21 and was from Kanagawa Prefecture. She was widely known for voicing Ran Mouri in Detective Conan.
Her other credited works included Brigitte in Me and Myself: The Two Lottes and a female character in the online game Nekketsu Kouko Online.


Detective Conan Production Changes Following Wakana Yamazaki’s Hiatus

Ran Mouri remains one of the central characters in Detective Conan.


In a statement released through her agency on February 16, Wakana Yamazaki announced that she would suspend all activities while undergoing medical treatment under a doctor’s guidance.

Starting with the March 14 broadcast of Detective Conan, Akemi Okamura, known for voicing Nami in One Piece, began serving as a replacement for the role of Ran Mouri. She is expected to continue appearing in the role going forward.

The currently screening film Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway still features Wakana Yamazaki’s voice performance.
