About the Original Manga and Anime

Takopi’s Original Sin is a manga by Taizan 5 serialized on Shueisha’s manga app Shonen Jump Plus. After launching in December 2021, the series drew explosive attention for the contrast between the adorable appearance and comical nature of Takopi, a Happy alien, and the harsh reality faced by human children, along with the shocking developments caused by Takopi and the others. It achieved the remarkable feat of breaking the highest view count record among serialized works at the time.

The series ranked third in the male readers category of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023. Although it concluded in two volumes, its total circulation has surpassed 1.8 million copies, including digital editions.

In June 2025, TBS Television and ENISHIYA teamed up to produce the long awaited anime adaptation. Despite being a streaming exclusive series with no terrestrial broadcast, each new episode dominated social media trends, turning the title into a social phenomenon. It won Best Anime at the Filmarks Awards 2025.

Its momentum has extended beyond Japan. The series was officially selected for the TV category at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026 and received seven nominations at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2026, including Anime of the Year, establishing its global acclaim.
