The series is based on Q Hayashida's manga Dorohedoro, which has been deeply loved by fans for 18 years since its serialization began in 2000. The story follows Caiman, an amnesiac man whose face was transformed into a lizard by magic. Alongside his partner Nikaido, he relentlessly searches for the sorcerer who cast the spell on him in order to recover his true face and memories.

With its one-of-a-kind world-building, shocking themes, and chaotic content, the series has garnered a passionate, cult-like following both in Japan and overseas, maintaining long-standing popularity. Although it was widely deemed impossible to adapt into a visual medium, it successfully received an anime adaptation in 2020.
