About Higurashi When They Cry

Higurashi When They Cry is based on the visual novel series originally created by the doujin circle 07th Expansion beginning in 2002.
Set in the fictional rural village of Hinamizawa during the late Showa era, the story follows a group of young boys and girls as they investigate a series of mysterious deaths and disappearances connected to the village's traditional Watanagashi Festival.
The franchise became a major phenomenon following the first television anime adaptation in 2006 and its sequel, Higurashi When They Cry Kai, in 2007. Since then, it has expanded across numerous media formats, including OVAs, manga, novels, a live action film released in 2008, a television drama in 2016, and a stage play in 2015. Most recently, Higurashi When They Cry Gou and Higurashi When They Cry Sotsu aired in 2020, further expanding the beloved horror mystery series.
