‘Rokudenashi BLUES’ Spinoff Onikazura Delayed to This Winter as Artist Changes, Editors Apologize

Rokudenashi BLUES spinoff manga Onikazura, originally scheduled to begin serialization in Grand Jump this summer, has been postponed until this winter. The original story is by Masanori Morita, while the artist has also been changed from Boichi, known for his artwork on Dr. STONE and THE MARSHAL KING, to Yuki Yoshimoto, the artist of The Ghost in the Shell: The Human Algorithm.

Rokudenashi BLUES Spinoff Onikazura Rescheduled for This Winter

Rokudenashi BLUES is a popular manga by Masanori Morita that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1988 to 1997. The story follows Taison Maeda, an aspiring professional boxer who enrolls at Teiken High School in Kichijoji and overcomes battles against a variety of formidable opponents.

The new work, Rokudenashi BLUES: Onikazura, tells the story leading up to a confrontation between two members of the Shitennō that was never depicted in the original manga, Shibuya no Onizuka and Ikebukuro no Kasai. When the project was announced in January, it attracted considerable attention as a new spinoff beginning 29 years after the original series concluded in 1997.

Regarding the postponement of the serialization, the Grand Jump editorial department posted an apology on its official X account.

“Rokudenashi BLUES: Onikazura, which had been scheduled to begin serialization this summer, will restart with Yuki Yoshimoto joining the project as the new artist. As a result, the planned start of serialization has been postponed until this winter. We sincerely apologize to all the readers who have been looking forward to it. Morita, who is handling the original story, also addressed the change on X.
