[85th Anniversary] Celebrate Batman Day in Shibuya: Bat-Signal & Pop-Up Store
This year, September 21 will be "Batman Day," a celebration of the popular DC character Batman’s birthday around the world. Batman made his debut in 1939 in the American comic "Detective Comics #27," making this year the 85th anniversary. Various events planned in Japan to mark this significant year have been announced, along with a congratulatory message from actor Yuki Yamada, who is known for his love of Batman.
From comics to TV shows, anime, and movies, Batman has captivated fans as a symbol of "determination," "courage," and "justice." What makes Batman most appealing is not superhuman powers, but his intellect, knowledge, and overwhelming technical prowess born from tragedy. The essence of Bruce Wayne lies in his relentless pursuit of justice and his strong will to protect people. "Batman Day" began in 2014 and is celebrated worldwide on the third Saturday of September every year with various events and activities.
In Japan, it has been decided that for the first time in five years, the Bat-Signal (the searchlight used to summon Batman) will be lit in Tokyo’s Shibuya. The location will be the billboard next to "Shibuya PARCO" in Udagawacho (from 6 PM to 11 PM). Yamada also urged, "Let's all go see it in Shibuya!"
Yuki Yamada’s Comment:
Congratulations on Batman's 85th anniversary! I think what makes Batman so appealing is that he knows pain, and although he is a hero, he doesn’t impose his sense of justice. Despite his struggles, he continues to be a hero, which I believe is what makes him a true hero. What is just for one person may not be just for another. I find it wonderful that Batman understands this and continues to be Batman.
I believe there are many people who love Batman more than I do, but as someone who has watched the "Batman" series, I’m excited to see the Bat-Signal! Everyone, let’s head to Shibuya!
