On the 25th, Sega held a presentation in Tokyo to announce the release of the latest installment in the Persona 5 series, a new smartphone and PC game titled Persona 5: The Phantom X. Pre-registration and recruitment for participants in the closed beta test have also started as of today.

Persona 5: The Phantom X is set in the world of Persona 5 and features a new cast of characters who embark on an original story. The protagonist encounters various supernatural phenomena, starting with a dazzling nightmare. Players will meet an owl named Lufel, who speaks human language, and enter the Velvet Room—a surreal undersea tunnel inhabited by a long-nosed man and an elegantly dressed woman in blue. Visions of strange prophetic dreams and a world called "Mementos" filled with mysterious enemies begin to unfold. In a world where “desires” are slowly disappearing, a new tale begins.

This game will be available on iOS, Android, and PC (Google Play Games/Steam), and will support cross-platform play between smartphones and PCs. While the base game is free to play, there will be optional in-game purchases.

At the event, key figures from the Persona series, including series producer Kazuhisa Wada, Persona 5: The Phantom X chief producer Yosuke Uda, development producer Jun Matsunaga, and operations director Yuta Sakai took the stage. Free announcer Neki Matsuzawa moderated the event, and special guest voice actress Ai Nonaka discussed the game's characters and world. The event also featured a live performance by singer Lyn (Rin Inazumi), adding to the excitement.

Since its release in 2016, Persona 5 has received numerous global gaming awards as a standout school-life RPG. Its themes, characters, user interface, and soundtrack have influenced subsequent entries in the franchise, including rhythm game Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, action RPG Persona 5 Strikers, and tactical RPG Persona 5 Tactica. The series has collectively sold over 10 million units worldwide.
