First published in 2002, Learning Manga: History of the World has been a beloved long-selling series for many readers. This latest edition has been fully refreshed, transitioning from the previous large-format hardcovers to more portable softcovers, with completely updated content. Each volume has increased by 56 pages compared to the previous version, offering more detailed storytelling on historical events from around the world, presented in a dramatic and accessible way. The stunning illustrations, engaging characters, and exciting narratives make readers feel as if they’ve traveled back in time.

The latest high school history textbooks emphasize a global perspective, exploring world history through "global history" and "inquiry," which encourages students to think for themselves and find answers. This new edition reflects these trends, covering not only European history but also Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and beyond, focusing on the connections between nations through people, goods, and culture. It is the first history manga series aligned with the revised national curriculum guidelines.

Notably, 10 of the 18 volumes cover the frequently tested modern and contemporary history, including events such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the military conflicts in Palestine. Additionally, the cover illustrations for all 18 volumes were created by renowned manga artists from Shueisha’s manga magazines. Hirohiko Araki depicted Napoleon, Yasuhisa Hara illustrated Ramesses II, and Kohei Horikoshi drew Caesar and Cleopatra—capturing the iconic figures from each historical period.

Each volume is priced at 1,100 yen, with the full set available for 19,800 yen.

Comment from Yasuhisa Hara:

"I am honored to have been able to illustrate the cover of the first volume of Learning Manga: History of the World. This is my first time drawing a Pharaoh, and I must admit, he’s a bit more muscular, thanks to the influence of Kingdom. I researched his clothing and accessories as much as possible, and even though it's from the same ancient era as Kingdom, there’s still so much I don’t know. This series has inspired me to keep learning, and I hope it encourages a new generation of history enthusiasts!"

Comment from Hirohiko Araki:

"I challenged myself to fully replicate Napoleon’s image. The colors were inspired by the Tricolor. Learning about historical figures through manga makes it easy to understand, doesn’t it?"
