‘HUNTER×HUNTER’ Releases New Chapter for the First Time in 1 Year and 9 Months: Weekly Serialization Ends with the Succession War Arc
The popular manga HUNTER×HUNTER (written by Yoshihiro Togashi) has released its latest chapter in the 45th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, on sale as of October 7. This is the first new chapter since the December 26, 2022 issue, marking a gap of about 1 year and 9 months. As indicated on the cover with the text "New Chapter Published!!", this is not the resumption of weekly serialization, which had already ended.
The latest chapter (Chapter 401) appears with a center color page, along with a summary page that recaps the flow of the ongoing Succession War storyline.
The weekly serialization of HUNTER×HUNTER ended with Chapter 400, which was published in the December 26, 2022 issue. Regarding this decision, the editorial department explained, "After discussions between Yoshihiro Togashi and the editorial team, considering Togashi-sensei's health, it was decided that future chapters, starting from Chapter 401, will not follow a weekly serialization format."
They also mentioned, "Togashi-sensei continues to work on the story, and the editorial team will continue to support him until the conclusion of HUNTER×HUNTER," confirming that future releases will not follow a weekly schedule.
HUNTER×HUNTER began its serialization in 1998 and follows the adventures of a young boy named Gon as he embarks on a journey with his friends, including Killua. The current arc, "Dark Continent" (Succession War Arc), depicts the various schemes and clashes between characters such as Kurapika and members of the Phantom Troupe as they travel aboard a ship headed for an unexplored continent. The series has surpassed 84 million copies in circulation, including digital editions.
Additionally, in today's issue of Jump, a bonus "Shanks" card for the One Piece Card Game, illustrated by SAKAMOTO DAYS author Yuto Suzuki, is included. The issue set to release on October 15 will feature a "Buggy" card drawn by Sexy Commando Gaiden: Sugoi yo!! Masaru-san author Kiyosuke Usuta.
