Wingman's Suit Actor Ryoma Hashido Takes on the Role in Live-Action Adaptation, Known for Kamen Rider Eternal in Gotchard
The live-action adaptation of Katsura Masakazu’s classic manga Wingman, commemorating its 40th anniversary, premiered on October 22. The show airs every Tuesday at 12:30 AM and is also available on DMM TV.
What is Wingman About?
The original Wingman (1983–1985) tells the story of Kenta Hirono, a high school sophomore and tokusatsu (special effects hero) enthusiast. Kenta, played by Maito Fujioka in the drama, creates his own superhero called "Wingman" and even crafts the suit and weapons. His dream of becoming a hero comes true when he obtains the mysterious "Dream Note," allowing him to transform into Wingman for five minutes. The series follows his journey alongside Aoi (Konatsu Kato), a mysterious girl from the alternate world of Podrimus, who arrives on Earth.
Behind-the-Scenes: Action and Suit Acting
The first episode also introduced key action staff. Director Koichi Sakamoto is also the action director, while Sanshiro Wada serves as the action coordinator. Ryoma Hashido, who is also an actor, takes on the role of Wingman’s suit actor. Other stunt performers include Yume Yamamoto as Aoi’s stunt double, Ryohei Sakai as Rimel, Rintaro Shimizu as Keytakler, and Momoka Yasukawa as Zasiva.
Hashido shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “To be honest, I wasn’t too familiar with the series when I first got the offer, but many seniors from that generation all told me how much they loved the manga. Now, I count myself among them.” He added, “I took on the responsibility and expectations with all my heart. I played the role of Wingman’s suit actor in the drama Wingman. Please watch it!”
