Like a Dragon: Yakuza – Ryoma Takeuchi’s Intense Physical Transformation and Behind-the-Scenes Action Revealed
The Amazon Original series Like a Dragon: Yakuza, starring Ryoma Takeuchi as Kazuma Kiryu, premiered exclusively on Prime Video today (October 25). To capture Kiryu’s 10-year evolution between 1995 and 2005, Takeuchi underwent rigorous training, revealing that embodying this physical change was “one of the toughest challenges” he’s ever faced. Newly released behind-the-scenes footage highlights Takeuchi’s dedication and the intense action choreography.
Based on SEGA’s hit Yakuza game series, this six-episode crime-action drama explores Kiryu’s journey through Kamurocho and his quest to become the “Dragon of Dojima.” The underground fighting scenes, featuring real fighters like world kickboxing champion Yoshihiro Kido, tested Takeuchi’s endurance, with co-star Kento Kaku (who plays rival Akira Nishikiyama) praising the “energy and commitment” Takeuchi displayed on set.
In an emotional message, Takeuchi reflected, “Everyone on set put their lives into this production, and that dedication truly shows on screen.”
