In Episode 33, the past of Rin and Sae, these two brothers, is revealed. Sae, already labeled a genius by the media, was just eight years old. On the other hand, Rin was still an ordinary boy who enjoyed playing with toys. One day, Sae invited Rin to play soccer, and Rin began to show glimpses of his talent. The two quickly made an impressive and precise combination, and before long, their dream became for Sae to be the world's best striker, and Rin to be the second best.

Eventually, Sae joined the youth team of a prestigious European club and left Japan. Four years later, on a snowy day, Sae suddenly reappeared before Rin, but he was no longer the same Sae Rin once knew... From that day on, an unbridgeable rift formed between the two brothers.

Blue Lock is based on the manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine. It tells the story of a national high school soccer project launched by Japan following their defeat in the Soccer World Cup, aiming to create a forward player with "overwhelming egoism." The project gathers 300 high school soccer players—all forwards—where 299 will have to give up their soccer dreams for one to emerge as a revolutionary striker who can change the future of Japanese soccer.

The manga has surpassed 40 million copies in circulation, and the first season of the TV anime aired from October 2022 to March 2023.
