As three key crew members receive reassignment orders, unease spreads among the Archangel's team. Tensions rise further when the Archangel is reassigned from the 8th Fleet to Earth’s Alaska base—leaving the crew puzzled about why a space vessel is being stationed on the ground. Meanwhile, ZAFT forces, including orbital satellites, ground bases, and submarines, mobilize under Supreme Council Chairman Patrick Zala’s orders. The operation, Spitbreak, shifts its target from Panama to Earth’s Alaska base, with the goal of bringing the war to a swift conclusion.

At Alaska, the base appears deserted. Ignoring orders, Mu La Flaga returns and encounters Rau Le Creuset, leading to a fierce gunfight. Le Creuset escapes, taking Flay Allster as a hostage.

Back at the Clyne Residence, Kira Yamato, recovering from his injuries, resolves to return to Earth to protect his comrades and find purpose in his battles. Lacus hands him the advanced Freedom Gundam, ZAFT’s newest Mobile Suit, saying, “Neither emotions nor power alone are enough. That’s why…”
