■Who is Kento Nanami?
Kento Nanami is a Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerer and a graduate of Tokyo Jujutsu High School, appearing in the popular anime series Jujutsu Kaisen. Recognized for his sharp sense of style, he always wears a suit and is easily identified by his signature 7:3 parted hairstyle and glasses.

During his student years, the loss of his close friend Yu Haibara deeply impacted him, leading Nanami to view the sorcerer profession as "crap." Disillusioned, he left behind his life as a sorcerer and began working for a securities firm. However, his life took a turn when he saved a woman working at a bakery and received heartfelt gratitude for his help. This moment of genuine appreciation rekindled his sense of purpose, inspiring him to return to his duties as a Jujutsu Sorcerer.

Nanami’s personality is calm and composed, with an exceptional ability to view situations objectively. Beneath this stoic exterior lies a compassionate individual, often referred to by his juniors and peers as "Nanamin." His strict yet warm mentorship has left a lasting impact on many sorcerers, including Yuji Itadori and Takuma Ino.

Kento Nanami’s Abilities

■Innate Technique: Ratio Technique (十劃呪法, Tokaku Juho)
Kento Nanami’s innate technique, the "Ratio Technique," divides his target into ten equal parts and creates a weak point at the 7:3 ratio point. This ability can be applied to both living beings and inanimate objects, making it versatile in battle. For example, Nanami can target structures such as walls or floors, breaking them to cause widespread damage.

In practice, Nanami focuses on specific parts of his target, such as the head or arms, and exploits the created weak points with precise attacks to maximize damage. This adaptability allows him to control his attack power and range effectively, excelling in both close-quarters and mid-range combat. However, his technique is less effective against opponents like Mahito, whose ability to alter body size nullifies its effects.

Extension Technique: Collapse ("Garagara")
"Collapse" is an advanced application of Nanami's Ratio Technique. It targets structures like buildings or walls, causing them to collapse and weaponizing the debris to attack enemies. This technique enables large-scale attacks, as seen during the Shibuya Incident, where Nanami used it in a subway, generating tremors equivalent to a magnitude 2 earthquake. However, this ability comes with risks, as Nanami himself can be caught in the aftermath, requiring careful judgment when deployed.

Black Flash
Black Flash is a phenomenon where a cursed energy-infused attack lands as a critical hit, amplifying its power several times over. While extremely difficult to achieve intentionally, Nanami holds the record for consecutive Black Flash activations with four, showcasing his exceptional skill and concentration.

"From here on out, it’s overtime"

"From here on out, it’s overtime"
Nanami imposes a unique self-restriction called "Overtime," limiting his cursed energy usage to 80-90% during regular work hours. After 6:00 PM, he removes this restriction, unleashing his full cursed energy potential. Reflecting his views on labor, this vow enhances his combat style. In this state, he wraps his tie around his right hand and employs a brutal fighting style using both his machete and fists.

Physical Abilities
Despite his intellectual appearance, Nanami possesses remarkable physical prowess. He has been depicted shattering concrete with his fists and remaining unharmed after being slashed with blades. These feats demonstrate his exceptional strength, allowing him to overpower Grade 1 and lower-grade sorcerers without relying solely on his techniques.

Beginning the Path of a Jujutsu Sorcerer
Kento Nanami began his journey as a Jujutsu Sorcerer as a first-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High School. This period was one of the most challenging times in his life, significantly shaping his worldview and influencing his later decisions.

Relationship with Classmate Yu Haibara
Nanami’s only classmate during high school was Yu Haibara, a bright and optimistic individual who became Nanami’s sole friend. However, Haibara’s death during a dangerous mission deeply affected Nanami, leaving him with profound grief and disillusionment. This tragic event made Nanami acutely aware of the harsh realities of being a sorcerer and led him to the belief that “Jujutsu Sorcerers are crap.”

Interactions with Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru
During his first year, Nanami and Haibara were mentored by second-year students Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto. They accompanied the duo on the Star Plasma Vessel escort mission, an assignment far beyond the capabilities of first-year students. This experience reinforced Nanami’s skepticism about the sorcerer profession, which demands the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of others.

Struggles After Graduation
The death of Yu Haibara left a deep emotional scar on Kento Nanami, becoming a pivotal factor in his decision to leave the life of a Jujutsu Sorcerer after graduation. Concluding that the profession demanded excessive self-sacrifice, Nanami stepped away from the world of sorcery and chose a career in the corporate sector.

Nanami’s work at a securities firm was marked by relentless pressure to meet targets and deliver results. The excessive demands from clients and the company’s profit-driven culture drained him mentally. This experience led Nanami to the realization that “work is shit” deepening his distrust of societal expectations, much like his earlier disillusionment with sorcery. However, this phase also set the stage for a turning point that would guide him back to his original path.

A Fateful Encounter at a Bakery
Nanami’s pivotal moment during his time as a salaryman occurred when he met a woman working at a bakery. One day, on a whim, he exorcised a low-grade curse that had attached itself to her shoulder. Witnessing her tears of gratitude, Nanami was struck by the significance of doing meaningful work for others. He realized that deep down, he longed to be needed and sought purpose in his actions.

Return to Jujutsu Sorcery
Through this experience, Nanami adopted the mindset of choosing the lesser evil: “If both paths are shit, I’ll choose the one where I have an aptitude.” With renewed determination, he decided to return to his role as a Jujutsu Sorcerer, embracing the responsibilities that came with it.

Satoru Gojo was Nanami's senior by one year at Tokyo Jujutsu High School. Nanami once remarked about Gojo, “I have faith in this person and trust him. But I don’t respect him,” reflecting a complex sentiment toward his former senior. While Nanami recognized Gojo’s unparalleled strength and reliability, he found Gojo’s frivolous demeanor difficult to accept and did not form a close bond with him.

However, Gojo held Nanami in high regard, entrusting him with mentoring Yuji Itadori. This decision highlighted not only Gojo’s recognition of Nanami’s abilities but also his trust in Nanami’s steadfast personality and sense of responsibility.

Yuji affectionately refer to Nanami as "Nanamin," a nickname that reflected his deep respect and fondness for his mentor.

Nanami’s final words, “You’ve got it from here” symbolized his unwavering faith and high expectations for Yuji. These words became a profound “curse” for Yuji, driving him forward and underscoring the deep bond they shared.
