Jump+ Releases 4 Genre-Themed Anthologies Featuring 20 One-Shots
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Shonen Jump+, a collection of 20 carefully selected one-shots from its archives has been released as four genre-themed anthologies. These special editions, titled Koi (Love), Jou(Emotion), Hen (Quirky), and Sei (Life), hit shelves on January 4, 2025.
(Note: Manga titles have been translated based on their Japanese meanings.)
Among the highlights is Takopi’s Original Sin author Taizan 5’s debut one-shot for Jump+, The Man Who Wants a Kiss. The anthologies also feature HITONER by Yahiro Yagi Tomohiro, which garnered over 1.4 million views within its first week of release. Each anthology represents a decade of memorable works from Shonen Jump+.
Additionally, these anthologies include exclusive new content: a single page of brand-new artwork by each featured creator, available only in these editions.
What Are One-Shots?
One-shots are standalone manga works published in magazines, not serialized on an ongoing basis. These works often serve as a gateway for manga creators, providing an opportunity to showcase their talent and sometimes leading to full-fledged serialization.
A recent example is Gaiku by Yuto Suzuki, the creator of SAKAMOTO DAYS. This one-shot was published on Jump+ before Suzuki made his serialization debut. Interestingly, a character from Gaiku seems to appear in SAKAMOTO DAYS.
The pathway from one-shots to serialization varies. For instance, Tatsuya Endo, the author of SPY×FAMILY, published a one-shot titled Blade of the Moon Princess in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2000. While the work was of high quality—even leading to a short serialization under the same title—Endo spent years assisting other manga creators before finally debuting his serialized work in 2010.
One-shots play a crucial role in nurturing manga artists, and Jump+ has dedicated significant effort to promoting and supporting these standalone works.
Comments from the Editorial Team
Shonen Jump+ boasts not only its serialized hits but also numerous exciting one-shots. However, after just a month, these works often fade from readers’ attention. This project was born from our desire to reintroduce readers to some of the best one-shots in our catalog.
We’ve chosen 20 works from the past decade and organized them by genre, showcasing the diversity and appeal of manga. The unique cover design is the first of its kind for Shonen Jump+, celebrating multiple creators’ works in one compilation. These volumes are perfect for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
The exclusive pages drawn by each creator to commemorate the anthology’s release are also highly engaging, making these editions a must-have for fans.
