Set in Lumiose City, the game offers a fresh adventure as players explore a city undergoing urban redevelopment, where humans and Pokémon strive to coexist. The city was originally introduced in Pokémon X and Y (2013), and returns here as a reimagined, dynamic setting.
In Pokémon LEGENDS Z-A, the protagonist visits Lumiose City as a traveler and stays in a historic hotel named Hotel Z alongside their partner Pokémon—Chikorita, Totodile, or Tepig. Together, they tackle a variety of incidents occurring across the city.

The game introduces a new real-time battle system—a first for the series—where both Pokémon and trainers move simultaneously, with Pokémon responding directly to trainer commands. Unlike traditional turn-based mechanics, players will need to consider type matchups, timing, attack range, and execution speed, offering a more dynamic and strategic battle experience.
The game also reintroduces Mega Evolution, a form of evolution that surpasses normal limits. Pokémon can undergo Mega Evolution using Keystones and Mega Stones, powered further by the bond between trainer and Pokémon. Mastering Mega Evolution is expected to be a key factor in battle.

A notable feature in Lumiose City is the newly developed Wild Zone, a controlled area where wild Pokémon live freely. Built using advanced technology by the powerful Quasar Corporation, the zone allows players to battle, capture, and interact with wild Pokémon, enhancing the game’s immersive open-world feel.
The Pokémon LEGENDS series began with Pokémon LEGENDS: Arceus in January 2022, which redefined the franchise by blending action gameplay and RPG mechanics. Set in ancient Sinnoh, that title allowed players to catch Pokémon and complete their Pokédex through real-time exploration and dynamic battles—paving the way for a new era in the Pokémon series.
