Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc Part 1: Akaza Returns has drawn over 21.1 million moviegoers and earned approximately ¥29.98 billion ($199.9 million) in just 45 days since its release on July 18. The film now ranks as the third highest-grossing movie of all time in Japan, following Demon Slayer: Mugen Train and Spirited Away, maintaining a record-breaking pace in ticket sales.

Demon Slayer’s Franchise Momentum Continues

Based on Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020, Demon Slayer continues to perform strongly across media formats. The previous film, Mugen Train, grossed approximately ¥51.7 billion (~$344.7M) worldwide.

The new film is the first of a trilogy covering the Infinity Castle Arc. The story follows Tanjiro Kamado and the Demon Slayer Corps as they confront Muzan Kibutsuji and the Upper Rank demons in the Infinity Castle.
