Reina Ueda Appears as “Reze” in the Final Episode of the Chainsaw Man TV Series: “I Was Nervous”

Voice actress Reina Ueda, who plays Reze, shared her thoughts at the world premiere of Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc held in Tokyo on September 15, joined by Kikunosuke Toya (Denji), Tomori Kusunoki (Makima), and Shogo Sakata (Aki Hayakawa).

Reina Ueda opens up about her nervous debut as Reze and the challenges of bringing the character to life in the upcoming Chainsaw Man movie.

Kikunosuke Toya commented on the acting dynamics between Denji and Reze: “Reze really led me forward. Both as a role and in terms of acting, I felt I should follow her lead. She pulled Denji around a lot, and that made it easier and more natural for me.” Ueda responded, “Hearing that makes me feel really saved.” She recalled being directed to approach Denji in a bold, forward way rather than quietly: “I think Denji was overwhelmed and confused, but also drawn in. While acting, I tried to make sure that despite her intensity, Reze would come across as genuinely pure and charming.”

A Nervous Appearance in the TV Series

Ueda also reflected on Reze’s brief appearance in the TV series: “I was nervous. The world of Chainsaw Man had already been built by everyone over a whole season. I worried a lot about how I could enter that world as a newcomer. Although Reze is supposed to be the type to take the lead, at first I just wanted to follow along with everyone. I was nervous, but determined to do my best.” As the main figure in the Reze Arc, Ueda felt the pressure but also found encouragement: “When I read the original arc, I was so drawn in. I knew the movie would have visually stunning scenes, and that gave me a lot of positive energy to keep going.”

Reina Ueda, known for roles such as Kanao Tsuyuri in Demon Slayer, Akane Shinjō in SSSS.GRIDMAN, and Ganyu in Genshin Impact, continues to expand her work across anime and games.
