Though small in stature compared to his sire, he was tough and healthy. As a two-year-old, he quickly rose to prominence, becoming a champion.

His Classic campaign saw him finish 8th in the Satsuki Sho, 5th in the Derby behind Vodka’s the third filly in history, and the first in 64 years, and 5th in the Kikuka Sho.

His fortunes changed when he paired with jockey Kenichi Ikezoe, his destined partner. Together, they won the Osaka Hai, finished 3rd in the Tenno Sho (Spring), then captured the Takarazuka Kinen and the Arima Kinen, becoming the ninth horse in history to complete the Grand Prix double in the same year. He raced on until age seven.

According to Kenichi Ikezoe, he was even more temperamental than Orfevre and basically tended to look down on people, yet he always ran his races earnestly.
