The final collected volume, Volume 46, is scheduled for release on July 23. Following the announcement, fans across the internet have expressed sadness and appreciation for the long running series.

Story of Two Brothers Chasing a Childhood Dream

Space Brothers began serialization in December 2007 in Morning magazine published by Kodansha. The story follows two brothers, Mutta and Hibito, who made a promise as children while gazing at the stars.

By 2025, the younger brother Hibito has fulfilled that promise and become an astronaut, joining the first long term crew on the Moon. Meanwhile, the older brother Mutta has lost his job and is unemployed. However, a single email from Hibito inspires him to pursue space once again.

The series became a major hit, winning both the 56th Shogakukan Manga Award in the general category and the 35th Kodansha Manga Award. It was also adapted into a television anime that aired from 2012 to 2014.

Following the announcement of its conclusion, fans have shared emotional reactions online, with comments such as “Great works always come to an end. Thank you for everything,” and “It is finally ending. I have been reading it for 19 years.”
