Star Detective Precure! Episode 16 Story & Preview Cuts Released: Eliza Becomes a Detective to Research Her Next Novel

The story and preview images for Episode 16 of the new TV anime Star Detective Precure! (JP: 名探偵プリキュア！), the 23rd installment in the long-running Precure franchise, have been revealed. The series is set to begin airing on May 17.

Episode 16 Story

As Mikuru Kobayashi is reading a novel by Eliza Kurusu, the author herself suddenly appears at the Curett Detective Agency, asking to be hired as a detective in order to find inspiration for her next work.

Anna and Mikuru are shocked by the unexpected visit, but at that very moment, a boy named Kotaro Akayama arrives with a request to help find his missing pet cat, Miiko. The group immediately begins their investigation.

Before searching for Miiko, Eliza interviews Kotaro in detail and conducts profiling. She even puts on cat ears and a tail to fully act like a cat while searching throughout the city together with Anna and Mikuru. Although they manage to find several cats with fur colors similar to Miiko’s, they fail to uncover any strong leads.

Feeling discouraged, Eliza is comforted by Mikuru, who encourages her using a line from Eliza’s own novel: “A heart that never gives up carves the pages of truth.” Motivated once more, Eliza decides to ask Kotaro about Miiko again in greater detail.

Introduction

Star Detective Precure introduces the first detective themed Precure storyline in the franchise and is set primarily in 1999. The protagonist Anna Akechi is a 14 year old second year middle school student living in Makoto Mirai Town. On her birthday, she encounters a fairy named Pochitan and is guided by a mysterious pendant found in her room, triggering a time slip from the year 2027 back to Makoto Mirai City in 1999.

There, Anna meets another 14 year old girl, Mikuru Kobayashi, who dreams of becoming a great detective. When a series of incidents begin to occur, the two girls find themselves unable to ignore people suffering from stolen treasured possessions. Together, they transform into the Star Detective Precure, solving mysteries with the catchphrase “That mystery will be cured” while protecting smiles through sharp deduction and searching for clues that may allow Anna to return to her original time.
