Kyoto Animation Announces Two New Novels: Aurora and Salmon and The Maestro Coming and Going Reveal Illustrations and Synopses

The two titles are new works by authors who have helped shape KA Esuma Bunko: Hiro Yuki, author of Sparks of Tomorrow, which is set to receive a TV anime this July, and Torako, author of the enduringly popular Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions.

Aurora and Salmon features illustrations by kukka, an illustrator known not only for book cover art but also for working on animated music videos for artists. The artwork fully expresses the world of the story and heightens anticipation for its unique setting. Who exactly is the strikingly depicted girl, Fille?

The story follows the days of a boy trapped by his desire for revenge in a certain village. A girl with aurora wings tells him, “Detours are necessary.” But to the boy, revenge was atonement, the path to happiness, and the very meaning of life. To him, her words seemed like nothing more than sophistry.

Before the boy stretches a grand fjord, warm meals, people living with all their might, selfless kindness, and the things he had overlooked until now. What will he feel as he sees them?

Born from a project by Kyoto Animation staff and written by Hiro Yuki, this is a memory of a detour. The aurora wings point toward a small detour, and even a seemingly pointless side road can reveal a view worth seeing.

The Maestro Coming and Going is illustrated by shirabi, the popular illustrator who worked on KA Esuma Bunko titles such as Myriad Colors Phantom World and Mobo Moga. The characters centered on the tomboy princess Meloco radiate a sense of motion, as if they could spring to life at any moment.

The story follows Hatsune, a sound creator summoned to a world where music becomes magic. Using her skills and sense, she thrives in another world, or at least she should. There is a princess who is probably faster than an ostrich at full speed, meaning around 70 kilometers per hour, a worldly pet cat, and even muscular male soldiers in bikini armor in the city. Is every otherworld like this?
