USJ x Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Collaboration Unveiled Today with Atsumi Tanezaki and Nobuhiko Okamoto at Opening Ceremony

Universal Studios Japan, located in Konohana Ward, Osaka, held an opening ceremony on May 29 ahead of the start of its collaboration with the popular TV anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. Voice actors Atsumi Tanezaki and Nobuhiko Okamoto appeared on stage.

USJ has previously collaborated with major anime titles such as Detective Conan and Jujutsu Kaisen. This marks the park’s first collaboration with Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. The event will run from May 30 through January 11, 2027.

The collaboration will feature the themed restaurant Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End: Restaurant of Memories, the thrilling coaster experience Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End x Story Ride: A Journey by Carriage with a Bird Monster, and original merchandise.

Universal Story Walk Offers an Immersive Frieren Experience

One of the highlights is Universal Story Walk, a new attraction format making its debut at the park.

In Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Story Walk: Journey of Memories, guests become travelers and explore the attraction on foot. Through giant screens, beautiful and immersive projection mapping, props recreating Himmel’s statue, and interactive effects that allow guests to use magic themselves, visitors can experience the magical world depicted in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.

On the same day, the attractions were unveiled to the press for the first time. Tanezaki and Okamoto also experienced them in advance.

Tanezaki looked back on the experience, saying, “From the moment I entered, I felt like I was in the world of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. I can walk with Frieren and the others!” She added excitedly, “It was hard to hold back my tears, and my eyes, ears, and everything else were overjoyed!”

Okamoto also said, “This kind of immersive experience was a first for me.” He added, “There was a Stark who was the same height as him, which made it feel even more real.”

Both voice actors appeared deeply immersed in the world of the anime through the attraction.

The ceremony officially began with the call, “Let’s immerse ourselves in this adventure,” by Okamoto, followed by “Universal Cool Japan Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End,” by Tanezaki, and then “Now open!”
